JUST A SAMPLE OF VINTAGE AIRPLANES IN THE MUSEUM HANGAR

TWO RARE AIRWORTHY P-47D THUNDERBOLTS
A NAVY TBM AVENGER... AND LOTS MORE!

Airworthy Warbirds are the foundation of the aircraft collection at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation. Most of the aircraft on display are flyable and with the runway just outside the hangar door, visitors are frequently treated to impromptu fly-bys. Aviation history comes to life as venerable WWII airplane engines start-up and the throttle is advanced for take-off.

This museum is said to be the only place in the country where two airworthy P-47 Thunderbolts are based. There are only 10 of these rare airplanes currently flying in the United States.

Because most of the aircraft collection is airworthy, you never know what aircraft you will see while at the museum. Visiting aircraft help vary the museum experience making it more interesting and exciting.

Not all of the airplanes on display are flyable. Some are on static display and at each station there is museum quality information and specifications to help visitors understand the role of a particular airplane on exhibit.

The following is a list of aircraft that are most frequently on display at the Tennessee Museum of Aviation:
